How Wedding Insurance Saved This Couple’s Big Day
Six hours before their wedding, Caitlin & Trevor made a decision no couple ever wants to face: postpone their entire day.
The bride’s makeup was already done. Months of planning had led to this moment.
And outside, a powerful nor’easter was rolling in.
The Wedding Day That Almost Was
Caitlin & Trevor were counting down the days to their February 22, 2026 wedding at Clarks Landing Yacht Club.
Vendors were already on site or en route, hair and makeup were complete, and the excitement was building. In the days leading up, a winter storm had been on the radar, but as forecasts continued to shift, the severity remained uncertain. By the morning of the wedding, conditions worsened rapidly, as a powerful nor’easter brought blizzard conditions and 50+ mph winds along the coast.
With everything already in motion and guests in town, the excitement of the day quickly turned into uncertainty.
Within a matter of hours, Caitlin & Trevor were faced with an impossible decision: try to push forward or postpone for the safety of everyone involved.
“It was really scary and incredibly upsetting,” Caitlin shared. “All of our guests had already traveled in, and realizing our coastal wedding was being canceled because of a blizzard felt surreal.”
Shock, disappointment, stress… everything hit at once.
But ultimately, they made the difficult and responsible choice to postpone.
And while the emotional weight of that decision was heavy, one thing gave them immediate relief—they had wedding insurance.
“We decided to purchase wedding insurance during our final details meeting with our venue’s maître d’, who told us it would be mandatory for all 2026 couples,” Caitlin said. “At the time, it felt like just another box to check, but it became one of the most important decisions we made.”
How Wedding Insurance Changed Everything

Caitlin & Trevor had secured wedding insurance through Event Guard by Markel Insurance.
Because their wedding had to be postponed on the day of, many of their expenses had already been incurred and were non-refundable. Without insurance, they would have faced a significant financial loss.
Instead, they were able to recover thousands of dollars in costs, including:
- Venue expenses
- Catering and staffing
- Floral arrangements
- Cake and rentals
- Hair and makeup services
- Personalized details tied to their original date
“Submitting everything took time, gathering contracts, receipts, and documenting losses, but once we were reimbursed, it was a complete breath of fresh air,” Caitlin said.
Rather than starting over under financial strain, they were able to focus on what truly mattered: rescheduling their wedding. They made the most of the situation by keeping their original honeymoon timing, turning it into a long, relaxing vacation ahead of their new wedding date.
“Honestly, rescheduling our wedding was much easier than we expected. Clarks Landing Yacht Club handled reaching out to our vendors and helped reschedule everything,” Caitlin shared.

The Wedding Day They Were Meant to Have
On April 3, 2026, Caitlin & Trevor finally had their wedding day, and it was everything they had hoped for, with perfect spring weather and sunshine throughout the day.
Caitlin spent the morning in the bridal suite with her closest friends, enjoying mimosas, music, and a relaxed, joyful atmosphere. Meanwhile, Trevor and his groomsmen arrived at 1:00 PM and spent the afternoon in the game room, playing pool, video games, and enjoying time together before the celebration began.
“We even had swans in the background right after our first look,” Caitlin said, “which felt like something out of a dream.”
Their ceremony, held in Clarks Landing Yacht Club’s indoor waterfront ceremony space and surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, was filled with natural light and reflected exactly the vision they had always imagined.
From their private cocktail hour to their reception entrance, every detail came together seamlessly.

What Couples Can Learn from This
Caitlin & Trevor’s story is a powerful reminder that even the most carefully planned weddings can face unexpected challenges. But being prepared and choosing the right vendors can make all the difference.
- The unexpected can happen—no matter how prepared you are
Weather, travel disruptions, and unforeseen circumstances are always a possibility. - Wedding insurance is an investment, not an extra
By the time your wedding day arrives, most major expenses have already been paid. Postponements can quickly become costly without protection. For a relatively small cost, wedding insurance can protect the much larger investment you’ve made in your day. - The right support system matters
Having a venue and vendor team that can step in and help navigate challenges can make a stressful situation far more manageable.
If you’re currently planning your wedding, consider speaking with your venue or planner about wedding insurance. It may be one of the most important decisions you make—giving you peace of mind from the moment you say “yes” to the moment you say “I do.”
